Sustainability & Community Impact

A Journey That Enriches and Preserves

At Bali To Jakarta Discovery, we believe that true luxury is not opulent, but conscious. We operate in one of the most biodiverse and culturally rich nations on Earth, and we hold a profound responsibility to ensure that our presence is a positive force for both the environment and the local communities. Sustainability is not an add-on to our business; it is a core principle that guides every decision we make, from partner selection to itinerary design. This commitment is shared across our parent organization, the Juara Holding Group, as we strive to create a legacy of responsible tourism in Indonesia.

Our approach is holistic, focusing on three key areas: proactive environmental conservation, meaningful community empowerment, and dedicated cultural preservation.

Environmental Commitments

We are dedicated to minimizing our ecological footprint and actively contributing to the conservation of Indonesia’s natural treasures.

  • Carbon Neutral Journeys: We recognize that travel, particularly by air, has a carbon footprint. We offer all clients the option to make their journey carbon neutral through our partnership with The Nature Conservancy (TNC) Indonesia. Contributions support their certified REDD+ projects, such as the Rimba Raya Biodiversity Reserve in Kalimantan, which protects vital orangutan habitat and prevents deforestation.
  • Marine Conservation Support: The waters of the archipelago are the lifeblood of the nation. A percentage of our revenue from all marine-based activities (yacht charters, diving) is donated to WWF Indonesia’s marine conservation programs, which work to protect coral reefs, reduce plastic pollution, and support sustainable fishing practices in the Coral Triangle.
  • Eliminating Single-Use Plastics: We enforce a strict policy against single-use plastics across our operations. All our ground vehicles are stocked with reusable glass water bottles. We contractually require our hotel and yacht partners to provide filtered water stations and avoid plastic amenities, championing a circular economy.
  • Partnering for the Planet: In our vetting process, we give preferential status to hotels and suppliers with recognized environmental certifications like EarthCheck, Green Globe, or those with demonstrable, advanced systems for water recycling and waste management.

Community Empowerment

Our goal is to ensure that the economic benefits of tourism flow directly to the local people who are the custodians of Indonesian culture.

  • Hyper-Local Employment: We are committed to local hiring. Over 95% of our guides, drivers, and on-the-ground coordinators are residents of the provinces in which they work. This not only provides direct economic benefit but also gives our clients access to authentic, local knowledge.
  • Fair Trade & Artisan Support: We facilitate experiences that connect clients directly with local artisans—from the batik masters of Solo to the Tenganan weavers of Bali. We ensure a ‘fair trade’ practice where the artisans receive 100% of the purchase price, with no commissions. This fosters economic independence and preserves traditional crafts.
  • The Juara Community Fund: As part of Juara Holding Group, we contribute to a dedicated community fund. A recent project includes funding a waste management and recycling program in a small village on the slopes of Mount Rinjani, and providing educational materials to a primary school in a remote community visited during our overland Java journeys.

Cultural Preservation

We see ourselves as ambassadors for Indonesian culture and are dedicated to its respectful and authentic presentation.

  • Education on Etiquette: Before visiting culturally sensitive sites, such as the Baduy community in West Java or sacred Balinese temples, our clients are provided with a comprehensive briefing by our expert curators on local customs, dress codes, and etiquette to ensure all interactions are respectful.
  • Supporting Cultural Institutions: We actively support local museums, galleries, and foundations dedicated to preserving Indonesian heritage. This includes arranging private, curator-led tours where a portion of the fee is a direct donation to the institution.
  • Intangible Heritage: Our itineraries are designed to celebrate and support Indonesia’s intangible cultural heritage, from arranging private Gamelan performances to sponsoring a local dance troupe, ensuring these vital art forms continue to thrive.

A journey with us is an investment in the future of Indonesia—a future that is environmentally sound, economically equitable, and culturally vibrant.

Beneath the emerald canopy of Sumatra’s rainforests and amidst the vibrant coral gardens of Raja Ampat, Indonesia whispers tales of unparalleled natural beauty, a legacy Bali To Jakarta Discovery is fiercely committed to safeguarding.

Protecting Indonesia’s pristine ecosystems

Our environmental commitment extends far beyond mere compliance; we actively invest in initiatives that protect Indonesia’s breathtaking biodiversity. From supporting coral reef restoration projects in the Komodo National Park region – home to over 2,600 species of reef fish and approximately 1,000 square kilometers of protected marine area – to partnering with local NGOs dedicated to rainforest preservation in Borneo, our actions are tangible. We rigorously select accommodation and transport partners who share our zero-plastic policy for guest services and employ advanced waste management systems
